“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

Dear Ones in Christ,

This year we were faced with and rose to the challenge of responding to change and uncertainty across the globe. Amidst the unanswered questions of this year, we remember the Lord’s faithfulness. We are to continue placing our trust in He who is on the throne. While 2016 is coming to a close, we look forward with hope to the New Year.

I have been reflecting on the old hymn, “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”. The song originates from northeastern India and is sung in many Sunday worship services at the IEM Bible College. We should be encouraged by the lyrics, “The world behind me, the cross before me; No turning back, no turning back.” Those who seek the will of God will be guided and directed and given great peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

This month also marks the end of the 50th anniversary celebration year for IEM. This year, we have reflected on His provision, and we have seen His faithfulness at work in abundant ways. As our faithful partners, you have served the ministry in fundamental ways, encouraging and blessing us immeasurably. By the Lord’s power, we have been able to accomplish much together. As we move into a new year, we move forward with the same vision that has motivated us for 50 years: to obey the command to share the Good News of the Gospel with those who have not heard the message of salvation.

This Christmas season, I think of William Booth, the founder of Salvation Army. He helped the poor by first cleaning them up, giving them a cup of soup and then sharing the love of God with them. This is a vision that has shaped how we serve the people of India: providing for their physical, material and spiritual needs. In this way, we share God’s love. May the Lord grant us each the opportunity to love one another in this way.

Please pray for our upcoming trip to India. God willing, Mariamma, Dayan and I plan to depart on January 13th. In February, friends from Ohio will join us at the campus for a time of service. Please pray for health and safe travel for all of us.

We thank God for you and the goodness of His provision. We pray the Lord to bless you, guide and direct you, prosper you and protect you from all evil. May you have a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!

Yours in His Service,

G.V. Mathai

“My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.” ~ Phil 4:19

Beloved Ones in Christ,

Over the years, the scripture quoted above has been a real source of comfort and blessing to me and to the ministry of IEM. Like the Apostle Paul, I am confident in the fact that God is faithful, and He will remember His own and minister to all their needs.

Mariamma and I are so thankful to the Lord for all our wonderful friends who have faithfully prayed and supported this ministry over the past 50 years. Because of you, IEM has been able to reach thousands of people with the message of salvation; and many nationals have been trained to go forth and preach the Gospel. In addition, we have been able to care for the poor and abandoned children, feed the hungry, and support the widows. The Lord is concerned for all these people, and He has promised to reward those who help them (Proverbs 19:17).

By the grace of God, our Bible College ministry is carrying on. We greatly miss our dear Brother Babu Paul, who went home to be with the Lord last month. He was our IEM registrar, and every year he conducted a ministry trip to the northeastern states of India. Please continue praying for his wife and two children (ages 15 & 11).

The Leadership Training Institute is running smoothly and will conclude at the end of this month. The 200 participants are very excited to be studying the Word of God, and many of them have expressed a desire to go into full-time ministry.

We thank God for His blessings upon evangelists and their ministries in various states of India. They are reaching out to many villages as they conduct open-air preaching and distribute Gospel literature.

The children in our Children’s Home are doing well, by God’s grace, and growing in the Lord. I wish all of you could hear their beautiful songs of thanksgiving to the Lord!

Let us be diligent in praying for our brothers & sisters in India.

Yours in His Love,

G.V. Mathai

“He who began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” ~ Phil 1:6

Beloved Ones in Christ,

Yesterday I received very sad news that one of our faculty members, Babu Paul, went home to be with the Lord. He was only 48 years old. Babu graduated from IEM Bible College in 1997 and has been our Bible School registrar since 2004. He led the students on their summer mission trip to the northeastern states every year, where he preached the Gospel and baptized many people. Now his work is over, and great will be his reward in heaven. Please pray for the comfort of his wife and two children.

We thank the Lord for very blessed 50-Year Celebration Banquets in Southern California on October 8th and in Washington on October 21st with many of our prayer partners. We thank the Lord for all of our dear friends across the country, who faithfully pray and help us reach the people of India with the Gospel.

By God’s grace, our 10th-annual Leadership Training Institute has started this month at our campus in Kerala, South India. Out of the 400 people who applied for admission, we have selected 200 to participate in this intensive 6-week Bible study. Please pray for their daily strength and devotion, as well as for the encouragement and health of our staff members who conduct the study.

Jesus said the fields are white and ready for harvest. One of my favorite Bible verses is
I Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” May the grace of God be with all of you and keep you under the shadow of His wings.

Yours in His Service,

G.V. Mathai
