Beloved Ones in Christ,

This month we are excited and look forward to our upcoming annual banquets. We are deeply grateful and moved by the prayers and financial support IEM has received over the past 51 years to help carry the Gospel further into unreached places. This week Dayan, Mariamma, and I returned from our Ohio Fellowship Dinner. We were so blessed by the love and support of our faithful partners there. We look forward to celebrating with our IEM family in Southern California on the 7th of October and in Washington on the 20th.

In India, a team of 16 of our evangelists and church members conducted an outreach from the 28th through 30th of August where they diligently passed out over 5,000 tracts and New Testaments. Over the course of the outreach, they shared in the streets and marketplaces singing, preaching, and performing skits.  They spoke with one local official who was interested in hearing more about God’s love. Some of the team members talked with him and encouraged him with the Word of God and warmly gifted him with a Bible. Let us pray that God speaks into this man’s life and that he is brought to the knowledge of saving grace in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our outreach team is eager to continue engaging with more people through opportunities like this. Our prayer is that we would be able to hold a similar outreach once a month. Kindly remember our evangelists as they continue to enter the mission field and that the Lord would provide regular funds for this ministry to flourish.

This month our hearts are also heavy considering the calamity of natural disasters around the world. Please join us in praying for those affected by the hurricanes in Florida, Texas, and the Caribbean, as well as the earthquake in Mexico.  As God’s people, we are strengthened by the promise of Psalm 46:1-3 that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea, though the waters roar and foam, and the mountains quake with their surging.”

We thank the Lord for the open door to share and preach the Word of God in village after village throughout India. Many Indian nationals are committed to sharing the Gospel, and we are excited about the results of so many people committing their lives to Jesus Christ. We are encouraged by the faithfulness and goodness of our supporters as they pray and support God’s work in India. My prayer is that we carry on all efforts to engage more people with the Good News of the Gospel.  Please continue praying for my wife, Mariamma, as she is recovering from a recent bout with pneumonia.

Yours in His Service,

G.V. Mathai

Dear Ones in Christ,

My son Dayan and I thank God for His faithfulness in giving us a safe journey to India and allowing us to accomplish many things for the Lord. Thank you for your fervent prayers on our behalf and for your financial support of the ongoing ministry.

The monsoon season in India (June-July) not only brought heavy rains, but also the spread of a deadly viral fever, which has taken the lives of many people. Sadly, the mother of one of our 7th grade children (Kiran Raj) died from the fever in early August. She was 45 years old, and had been ill for only three days. Please pray for Kiran and his sister, as they are now orphans, that they may feel the love of the Heavenly Father. Pray also that God would continue to put a hedge of protection around our IEM campus so that the believers, students, and children will be protected from the fever.

Through the summer ministry of our Bible College students, many young people came to know the Lord in the northern provinces of India. About 15 of these new believers came in June to join our Bible College. We currently have 70 students enrolled in the Bible College. They are very committed to studying the Word of God and taking the message of salvation back to their villages.

As you know, my wife Mariamma was diagnosed with breast cancer last month, and I came home a week early to be with her. She has started the medication treatment, and so far the side effects are minimal. Thank you all for loving us and for upholding her in your prayers.

On August 3rd one of our long-time board members, May Carpenter (wife of Dr. Bob Carpenter) went home to be with the Lord. Bob and May were a great influence in helping with the work of our Lord in India, and great will be their reward. Please pray for Sister May’s family at this time. The memorial service will be in November.

Let us remember that “God is still on the throne, and He will remember His own.” We can thank God for the redemption He has brought to our lives. May we share the Good News with a dying world and do our utmost for the furtherance of the Gospel. We love you very much and uphold you in our prayers.

Yours in His Service,
G.V. Mathai

Beloved Ones in Christ,

Thank you for your continual prayers and support of the good work happening at India Evangelical Mission. I am reminded of Paul’s words to the church in Philippi, “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you … because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now” (Philippians 1:3,5). We can rejoice together that the Gospel is being preached in India and many are coming to the knowledge of saving grace through Jesus Christ.

Please pray that the Gospel would continue to minister to the hearts of people who have received the message of good news, and that the Lord would continue to reveal Himself through the word that He has spoken. We are currently accepting applications for the annual Leadership Training Institute, which is held at our Bible College campus. This ministry equips men and women with knowledge and understanding of how to minister the Gospel to others in their day-to-day lives. Please pray that God will lead students to the program who will have a positive impact in their community for the Gospel.

GV returned from India on the 18th of this month after six weeks of faithful ministry. He was able to minister to believers at several churches in both Kerala and Mumbai. We thank the Lord for giving him strength to continue in the ministry, and for bringing him home safely.

We are overwhelmed by the grace of God and your faithful partnership with us. Thank you for your prayerful support in furthering the Gospel in India. Please especially pray for Mariamma (Mom), who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Although it is serious, she remains strong in her faith, and we are praying that the treatment she is receiving will be effective.

Yours in His Service,

Dayan Mathai
